Meet the Short Term Tenants

Each of these visitors stayed in a short-term rental at Desert Mountain. If short-term rentals had been restricted, these visitors would have booked at the Scottsdale Four Seasons or the Marriott at Desert Ridge or some other luxury hotel. Because DMMA allows short-term rentals, they booked here. These renters are well off financially, educated and excited to be vacationing on the Sonoran Desert. Many are looking for a retirement home. These are the people our realtors and Club membership sales agents want to meet. People like these can appreciate our beautiful community and Club. Why exclude visitors like these? Is it time to stop the acrimony about rent restrictions and focus on something more productive? Like making Desert Mountain the finest, most sustainable golf and recreational real estate community in North America. We do that by celebrating diversity, welcoming new-comers and offering short-term visitors a taste of something really special.

Enjoyed Watching the Quail, Woodpeckers and Cardinals, Lou and Anne, February 2018
We made the casita our home base from February 7th to February 21st while visiting family in Phoenix and were fortunate to have our hosts present in the main house during most of our stay. We made maximum usage of the casita’s patio, basking in the sun on those days it was present, and enjoyed watching the quail, woodpeckers, cardinals, and other birds feeding from the seed block adjacent to the patio. We also saw rabbits, javelina, and a bobcat meandering through the property. What a beautiful setting; we fell in love with our Desert Mountain surroundings and were reluctant to leave, vowing to come back for a longer stay. Our hosts invited us to join them on their rooftop patio for wine and cheese as we watched the beautiful sunset and enjoyed stimulating conversations about things we had in common. We felt more like long-time friends than guests staying in a short-term rental. If Airbnb had a Supreme Host category, that’s where our hosts belong! (At the end of our stay, I presented our hosts with a picture I had painted of Black Mountain at sunset.)

Quiet, Secluded Desert Mountain Setting, Ian and Sally, February 2018
We felt so fortunate to be able to spend a week in this spacious, quiet, desert home. . . After a day of hiking the nearby desert trails or touring the museums or gardens of Scottsdale, we enjoyed returning to the comforts and serenity of this beautiful home. Five stars!!! The quiet, secluded setting of the Desert Mountain community delighted us with meticulous desert gardens and the natural splendors of giant saguaros. Whether relaxing in the pool or by the fire, or hiking the spectacular, elevated trails of Desert Mountain, we found the perfect desert vacation. We felt so fortunate to have been able to rent this home for the week and hope to return again!

Safe, Secure and Scenic Location, David, January 2018
The best hosts I have experienced with AirBNB thus far. Was extra clean, all amenities needed and then some, perfect, safe, secure and scenic location with easy access. What more would one want? Outstanding. Everything was beyond my expectations and to share an evening sunset with my hosts was an added plus.

Absolutely Beautiful, Susan Maria, January 2018
Lovely private studio casita in a quiet, absolutely beautiful private resort. Older but super clean furnishings. The wildlife at the bird feeder was also a treat: quail, woodpeckers, baby wild pigs, rabbits and deer!

Perfect for Our Family of 4, Beth, April 2017
This house was perfect for our family of 4! Our kids loved the pool and the hosts were more than accommodating! The location was safe and quiet and it was a few minutes’ drive to tons of restaurants and activities.

Most Scenic Location in Carefree, Sharon, March 2017
We so enjoyed our stay in this bright, spacious, beautiful casita located in a most scenic location in Carefree. The casita and main property are in a most beautiful setting surrounded by mountains, beautiful homes and wildlife. Two javalinas visited right outside our window! The pool area is lovely with dramatic views of the surrounding desert.

The Location Was Just Beautiful, Renee, March 2017
So comfortable, so convenient, so well thought out. We had a wonderful weekend away from the cold Chicago winter. We loved the cute quails outside, and the nighttime stars were amazing, the pool was gorgeous, the hot tub felt great. A great little hideaway to appreciate the beautiful surroundings and have a wonderful time! It was so beautiful and peaceful that it was okay that it was further away than we anticipated.

Located in a Private Gated Community, Don and Claire, March 2017
If you are looking for a place to relax and rejuvenate, this is it. The home is located in a private gated community with great access to hiking trails. The sunsets are spectacular.

An Outstanding Experience, Christy, February 2017
The home is just beautiful and immaculately clean. It was an open and airy space with plenty of windows to look out on the serene and remarkable surroundings. Our hosts were kind enough to invite us up to the roof-top deck of their home to enjoy a sunset. This was a very special trip made even more special by the beauty of our surroundings.

Loved the Place and the Location, Kathi, March 2016
We loved the place and the location. Plenty of space for us. Everything we wanted. The neighborhood was a nice place to walk. Even saw a little wildlife!!!! The pool was nice and warm! The weather was fantastic!

Super Quiet and Spacious, Whitney, March 2016
We couldn’t have had a better time! The casita was clean, super quiet and spacious and chock full of amenities. We loved the pool and hot tub and took advantage of the area for great cycling, mountain biking, hiking, wonderful restaurants – and went to Scottsdale for a Giants game and the Arts Festival (and great food). Quiet location and close to so many wonderful outdoor activities, yet only 40 minutes to downtown Scottsdale.

Made the Trip Special, Josh, February 2016
A beautiful, comfortable, relaxing getaway. My wife and I stayed in the casita for 2 weeks with our 3-year old and 9-month old boys and had a wonderful time. Really made the trip special. We highly recommend staying in the beautiful desert.

Excited to See the Sunset, Christy, February 2016
I was traveling with a group of coworkers for a work trip. The house was in impeccable shape and was the perfect size for us. The landscape could not be beat – we were so excited to see the sunset from the house while we were there. At first, I was concerned about its distance from Phoenix, but the views made the daily drive absolutely worth it.

Plenty of Nearby Options to Golf, Bill, January 206
I would have no problems booking this home again at a future date. If you’re wanting to get away from the city of Phoenix, but still within driving distance, this is an excellent location. The community is very, very nice and safe and plenty of nearby options to golf, if you so desire.

Perfect for Our Family of Hikers, Runners, Walkers and Tricyclers, James, April 2015
Desert Mountain is a visually beautiful, gated, low-traffic community that was perfect for our family of hikers, runners, walkers, and tricyclers. The location of the house is perfect– seclusion and privacy with convenient access to great shops and restaurants. Our extended family ranged in age from 60+ down to 18 months, and the house and area accommodated everyone’s needs with room to spare.

Beautiful Colors Painting the Dawn Sky, James, March 2015
A lovely, peaceful spot in the Arizona desert, located within a gated golf community in the foothills of far northern Scottsdale. We spent five days there in March, and the weather was beautiful: sunny with temperatures in the 80s-90s. We are a family of three. We particularly enjoyed having early morning coffee on the patio, which opens directly onto the desert. Despite being located in a residential neighborhood, you don’t really notice the other homes when you are on the patio, and the view is lovely. If you wake early, you’ll see beautiful colors painting the dawn sky. You will feel tucked into the desert—it’s very tranquil. We saw only birds, but the potential to see much larger and more varied desert wildlife exists. The location is very quiet and peaceful. It’s an excellent place to relax, far from the activity of downtown Scottsdale and central Phoenix. (You’re 45 minutes from Sky Harbor Airport.) However, you are close to Carefree and Cave Creek, which offer quirky shopping and multiple restaurants. We very much enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to others.

Watching the Sunsets was Amazing, Michael, March 2016
It was a wonderful stay and we felt right at home. The beautiful cacti and wildlife was so much fun to observe. Sitting on the patio with a glass of wine and watching the sunsets was amazing.

The Quiet Location Was Perfect, Colin, February 2015
Home is beautiful and tucked away, but within easy striking distance of the restaurants, etc. in Carefree. The perfect place for our family get-together! The quiet location was perfect. We loved watching all of the birds and wildlife from the porch.

Hard Act to Follow, Steve, February 2015
It is a peaceful area with wonderful views of the desert. The gated community is in the beautiful foothills, with wonderful hiking nearby, which was our focus. The nearby town of Carefree has nice shops. Downtown Scottsdale activities are about 30 minutes away. This was our first Airbnb experience. Will be a hard act to follow. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Wonderful Getaway, Gary, January 2015
With an important family event at hand, we found the luxurious oasis for the rest and relaxation I was hoping to find. The house provides an outstanding view of the desert and spectacular sunsets. For those who want to get out, the nearby town of Carefree provides a wealth of small shops, artist galleries, restaurants and special events focused on the western lifestyle. I highly recommend this wonderful getaway!

Very Private and Safe, Denise, April 2014
Excellent location! It was very private and safe. Neighborhood is excellent for jogging/walking and great hiking trails nearby. We enjoyed our time in the warm sun, cool pool & excellent conversations! Thank you for our sunset reception on the roof…what a great evening!

Beauty and Peace of the Sonoran Desert, Stephen, March 2014
If you want to experience the beauty and peace of the Sonoran Desert, then this is the place. A very comfortable and well-maintained place to relax and enjoy authentic desert surroundings. Highly recommended!

On Thursday We Looked at Homes, Michael, March 2014
We stayed for seven days and had a wonderful time. It was wonderful to get up in the morning, make a cup of coffee and a piece of toast and watch all the wildlife before heading out for the day. At night we slept like a baby because it was so quiet. We hope to stay here again. We loved everything about our stay. Especially Thursday when we looked at homes and had dinner together. That was really fun! We feel very special.

Totally Hooked, Ted and Annette, February 2014
Luxury home with a unique layout of rooms to maximize interest. Upscale in design, neighborhood, and construction. Gated community was easy to access by following instructions. It was our first Airbnb rental and we are totally hooked. We went horseback riding at Spur Cross, and to the Grand Canyon (Southwest Tours are great!), visited the farmers’ market in Carefree on Friday morning, toured Sedona and Cave Creek. A highly successful and enjoyable experience!

Plenty of Privacy, Noy, April 2013
The house is spacious, yet cozy and comfortable; quaintly decorated, yet modernly equipped. There are a handful of nearby houses, but there is plenty of privacy. The serene setting provides ample tranquility for superb relaxation. The surrounding area is flush with wildlife, including many birds feeding from the bird feeders. We even saw a bobcat strolling by the driveway while we lounged in the pool area! (Don’t worry, we felt safe.) The community’s security personnel provide a secure and safe environment that enhances one’s sense of comfort.
